Adenosine tri‐phosphate induced photoreceptor death and retinal remodelling in rats

This study characterised the chronic effects of ATP on retinal integrity. ATP caused loss of visual function within one day, loss of fifty percent of the photoreceptors within one week and total photoreceptor loss by six months. This inducible model provides a valuable tool for investigating the retinal degenerative process. (Source: The Journal of Comparative Neurology)
