Giving Meds Without Orders Can Cost A License

It’s common practice in our PACU for the nurses to administer a medication
and have the anesthesiologist sign for it later. Recently I administered a medication
in this manner and the patient became oversedated. Though we reversed the sedation
and the doctor signed off on the med I administered, I was fired. Now I’m worried
about my license. Is it safe since the physician ultimately wrote an order for
the medication I administered?
