Did you know that in the United States, advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness? This month the National Eye Institute (NEI) is hosting a Twitter Chat to discuss the two multi-year studies they have conducted to determine whether certain nutritional supplements are useful for AMD. These Age-Related Eye Disease Studies (AREDS and AREDS2) have led to new insights into how patients can slow macular degeneration from reaching its late stage.
